Draping & Tailoring

Draping

This is a picture from the 2000 movie Gladiator. I thought this was a great example of draping & tailoring. Although the majority of their garments are draped, the shield he is wearing to protect his chest is very much a custom fit to his measurements. The time period is 180AD and the costume designer was Janty Yates.

This is a picture from the 2006 movie 300. This is a very classic and obvious example of the draped garments worn by Spartans in 480BC. The fabric & colors were light in order to stay cool in the heat and also to make it simple to move in. The designer on the set was Michael Wilkinson.

The final example of draping is a picture from the 2004 movie Alexander. The costume designer on set was Jenny Beavan.

Tailoring

This is an example of tailoring from the 2006 movie, Underworl: Evolution. This is a very classic example of tailoring as each garment is made to fit his measurements specifically. The jacket and shirt hug his body and fit his form very closely. The time period for this film is 1202 AD and the designer on set was Wendy Patridge.

This is also a great example of tailoring from the 2008 film, The Other Boelyn Girl, set in the 16th century. The designer on set was Sandy Powell.

Finally, this is an example of tailoring from the 2006 film, Pirates of the Carribbean: Dead Man's Chest. Although the exact time period for this film is unknown, I think it may be somewhere around the late 17th century. The designer on the set was Penny Rose.
