What is a source book...

A source book is a compilation of all things, past, present, and future that inspire a persons own sense of style and contributes to their understanding of the fashion industry as a whole. A source book is a great way to explore the ins and outs of the fashion industry while also being able to incorporate your own sense of creativity into your learning.

I chose this picture because I think it is a great representation of what fashion truly is: being able to create something amazing out of something completely ordinary. While Meryl Streep, the actress, isn't necessarily known for her fashion sense, Meryl Streep as Miranda Priestly has an iconic sense of style. Her clothes, hair, makeup, accessories, and attitude exude perfection and she is virtually flawless. Patricia Field, while not known for her own personal sense of style, as a costume designer for other people she is able to create a masterpiece with almost every actress. Her unique ability to see couture in places that most people wouldn't normally look inspires me to take risks and try things that I might otherwise shy away from.

I am truly excited about working on this source book throughout the semester because it will give me the opportunity to explore the depths of the industry and I am sure I will find inspiration for my own style in places I wouldn't otherwise look to.
